This is the first Lost Shoe I´ve posted for a while – but that doesn´t mean I´ve stopped photographing them though, because I haven´t. I found this fine example in Landshut this morning.
I´d just got my D800 back from the cleaners and what did I stumble across in the old town? Yes, a lost shoe! The first one for a while and therefore, even more welcome!
The Kultfabrik revealed two fine specimens of the family, “Lost Shoe”. This time I´m also including an in situ shot to give you an idea as to how this shoe was laying and what also surrounded it.
I think the effect is one of a random still life, or maybe random still decay.
The Kultfabrik is an “Edgeland” at the centre of Munich, parts of it seem to be decaying back into a feral state, right there amongst the night life and the infrastructure that services it.
A fascinating and stimulating place
Chatham on Cape Cod is a very pleasant place to visit, it has an historical lighthouse, a small but busy fishing harbour and a well tended beach. After a stroll along the beach I came across this depot for lost shoes (and a towel). I know this picture is slightly unusual for me in that I have photographed pairs of shoes, normally it´s the poor lost shoe that gets my attention and sympathy. But I like this scene because of two reasons:
1. This small jumble of colours on the sand. I´ve selectively increased the colour saturation of each shoe to make the scene “pop” a bit more and give it a slight colour film feel. By the way, I´m using Capture One version 7 to process my RAW data, which I can recommend whole heartedly.
2. And the question each pair of shoes throws up. What was the sex of the wearers? I´ve come up with my own theory and it´s this: The single flip flop top left was worn by a male, the two just below it by a woman, the trainers by a man and the other pair next to them by a woman. The towel is gender neutral. Does that match your opinions?
It had to happen sometime! We´ve been following each others blogs for a while now, and because 100canciones also lives in Landshut, we eventually had to meet. While he also is a musician – and a street musician, that made it even more inevitable. Last Saturday morning, after shooting my latest lost shoe, I saw him playing in the centre of town.
So these shots are for you 100canciones!
